Clampdown won’t daunt Kashmiris’ resolve: Mirwaiz
‘March To Mazar-e-Shauhda, UN Office On July 13’
ARIF SHAFI WANI
Srinagar, July 10: Chairman of Hurriyat (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Saturday said the ongoing protests against the killings will continue and maintained that the spontaneous agitation should serve as a glaring example for New Delhi that the curfew and restrictions won’t deter the Kashmiris to attain right to self-determination.
Leading a massive protest rally as part of his “civil disobedience movement”, Mirwaiz urged people to march from Jamia Masjid to Mazar-e-Shauhda at Naquashband Sahib to mark the Martyrs Day on July 13. He said from there people should march to the United Nations Office at Sonawar to present a memorandum against the recent killings by troops and police in the Valley. “The ongoing uprising against the killings of innocents should serve as a glaring example for New Delhi and its puppet regimes in the Valley that Kashmiris won’t sit until they get the right to self-determination. I appeal the people to continue the ongoing protests till we don’t achieve our ultimate goal of freedom,” Mirwaiz said while addressing a massive gathering at Alamgari Bazar in Old City.
He said since 1947, the Indian troops and police have been trying to suppress the movement. “However, they failed. The movement has reached crucial juncture. For the larger interests of the movement, I appeal the all the pro-freedom leadership to unite and take it to its logical conclusion.”
Mirwaiz maintained that if the authorities continue to impose restrictions to thwart the peaceful protests against the killings, “it will have to face serious consequences.”
“If the authorities use force to quell the peaceful protests, it will have dire consequences and government will be responsible for it,” he said.
He urged the people to go the houses of the teenagers and youth killed during past one month and express solidarity with their families. “People should march with the pro-freedom leadership to the victims houses. However if the leadership is kept under house arrest or detained, the program will be held on the next day,” he said.
Castigating the authorities of imposing curbs on the local media, Mirwaiz, accused “the Indian channels of unleashing propaganda regarding situation in Kashmir.”
“Some Indian channels are projecting our youth as miscreants and goons. They are justifying the killings by the CRPF and police in the name of so-called national interest.
Mirwaiz strongly condemned slapping of PSA on Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, High Court Bar Association President, Mian Abdul Qayoom and arrest of JKLF chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik and dozens of youth.
