ISLAMABAD TEENAGERS’ MURDER PROBE TO END ‘SOON’
KHALID GUL
Islamabad, July 11: The magisterial enquiry launched into the cold blooded murder of three teenagers allegedly by the police in this South Kashmir town on June 29 will be concluded soon and the report is expected to be submitted within a few days.
“We have sought all the details from the police regarding the incident and the investigation is going in a proper direction and within a few days the final report would be submitted to the government,” said Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Ghulam Muhammad Dar, who is heading the probe.
Dar said that about 15 police officials who were deployed around the area have so far been summoned and their statements have been recorded. He also appealed the eyewitnesses and the family members to cooperate and help them in bringing the culprits to book. “Due to the hostile atmosphere and curfew in the area the witnesses have not deposed before us that is why there has been delay in the enquiry but we expect them to cooperate,” said Dar adding that they have established a camp office in Dak Bungalow Khanbal where the witnesses can depose.
Pertinently, the locals and the families of the victims have rejected the magisterial enquiry and are demanding judicial probe into the incident.
The government has already ordered the transfer of four police officials including Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors and their personal guards whose name had surfaced in the murders. All of them have been attached with the police lines, Srinagar.
“The step to attach these officials and their personal guards was taken to ensure their presence before the enquiry commission and also for the incident happened within their jurisdiction,” said an official.
He said that they have sought the details from the police regarding the number of rounds fired in air earlier in the day in Laizbal area on Khanabal-Pahalgam (KP) road and also the use of service rifles in Anchidora where the three teenagers were killed and four others injured.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Jaipal Singh said, “The enquiry is going on smoothly and we expect it to get completed by June 15.”
