Show collective responsibility: Aasiya

Asks people to observe civil curfew today

ARIF SHAFI WANI

Srinagar, July 11: Maintaining that the ongoing movement had reached a crucial stage, the Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Syeda Aasiya Andrabi on Sunday said it was high time for Kashmiris to unite and show collective responsibility for achieving the goal.
Aasiya asked the people to observe civil curfew on Monday to express solidarity with the Kashmiri detainees lodged in various jails.
“Due to untiring sacrifices rendered by Kashmiris, particularly our youth, the movement had reached to a decisive stage. At this moment, the people have to show collective responsibility for success of the movement for Azadi,” Aasiya told Greater Kashmir.
Elaborating, she said there was not a single house in Kashmir which has not been directly or indirectly supporting the movement. “But due to lack of coordination among people, the movement suffers setbacks. If there is any atrocity by police or troops in any part of the Valley, people should protest against it. People have to understand that their respect and identity had been snatched and they are gradually becoming victims of State terrorism,” she said.
Aasiya said thousands of Kashmiris were languishing in various jails inside and outside the state. “Most of them particularly teenagers and youth were booked on frivolous charges. Many detainees and convicts are still behind bars despite serving their sentence. Hurriyat Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, besides other pro-freedom leaders and Bar President, Mian Qayoom, has been booked under PSA just for raising voice over killings of innocents,” she said.
“New Delhi and its stooges in Kashmir have extensively misused the laws and filled the jails with innocents to suppress the movement. Kashmiris owe to these detainees. I make a fervent appeal to people to enforce a civil curfew on Monday to express solidarity with them,” she said.
However, she said the vehicles of journalists and ambulances are exempted from the strike.
