Autopsy reveals Fancy Jan, Fayaz killed by bullets
Muzzafar Died Due To ‘Drowning,’ Family Contests
MOAZUM MUHAMMAD
Srinagar, July 12: Autopsy report of Fancy Jan and Fayaz Ahmad Wani, who died in police and CRPF action last week, has confirmed that they were killed due to bullet injuries.
However, contrary to his family’s claims, preliminary autopsy report of other youth, Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, conducted in Police Control Room, says that he was killed due to drowning. The three deaths last week had triggered massive protests across the valley forcing authorities to clamp curfew.
Sources privy to post-mortem said however there were injury marks on Muzaffar’s head which indicate that he had been hit by something. “But there were no injury stains on his body,” a top official said.
The head injury, sources said, remained unknown as to how the deceased was hit on his head when he had drowned. “This is to be confirmed by reaching to the spot of crime. It will be seen if there was some heavy object or something like that. Police has been informed about it,” a doctor, wishing anonymity, said. But, sources said, the nature of the crime remained complicated as “his body was not swollen due to water nor was it decomposed as would have been the case.”
Experts said there was enough evidence besides mud and grass stuck in his undergarments which revealed he had been in water for sometime. Official sources said that his viscera has been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory Dalgate and Department of Pathology at Government Medical College. “Only that we can fully confirm the cause of his death. But we are cent percent sure that he died due to drowning. We are waiting for final reports,” sources said.
Medics said that if Muzaffar’s death had occurred because of drowning there would be diatoms, a kind of fauna, present in the body.
“Two children are witness to the incident that he was beaten by policemen and then bundled away in a Gypsy. He was later on dumped around 5 am by police in the canal when curfew was clamped here,” Muzafar’s father, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, told Greater Kashmir.
However, sources, said that the other two deaths including that of the lady were clearly due to bullets.
“Bullet wounds were clearly visible on their bodies. Fayaz had two bullets, one on his neck and other in his chest. While Fancy had received bullet in her chest,” sources told Greater Kashmir.
The post mortem had been conducted in the presence of Magistrate Srinagar South. “It had been properly documented through videos and photos,” sources said adding it was conducted by three doctors including two from Chief Medical Officer, Health department, and one from Police Hospital Batmaloo.
Sources alleged that no expert from GMC was present as the sole forensic expert was on long leave adding the report should have come till date. GMC sources said that they had received samples on which was written ‘case of drowning’. “Histopathology will confirm whether it was case of drowning or not. We will come to conclusion once we see the slides which will take a few more days,” a top official told Greater Kashmir.
POLICE REGISTERS CASE:
Police has registered attempt to murder case against IRP personnel in connection with the killing of Fancy Jan.
Police sources told Greater Kashmir that an FIR number 80/2010 under Section 307, 147, 148, 149, 332, 336, 427 RPC has been registered in police station Batamaloo.
The FIR states that the IRP personnel of 13th Battalion “fired in air” to disperse the protesters and stray bullet hit her during this firing.
