Bar blames NC, PDP for killings

Suspends Work Till July 15

SAMAAN LATEEF

Srinagar, July 12: Accusing National Conference-led coalition government and opposition Peoples Democratic Party for creating a hostile atmosphere in Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association Monday said that the mainstream political parties were responsible for the ongoing killings of innocent Kashmiri youth.
Addressing a press conference at Saddar court here, the General Secretary HCBA, G N Shaheen rejected the media projections that the ongoing situation was a political battle between NC and PDP or between stone-pelters and government. “Both (NC and PDP) are guilty and party to the situation befallen on Kashmir people. They are playing with the lives of innocent Kashmiri youth,” Shaheen said.
He termed the ongoing uprising as a mass movement and said people were voluntarily participating in the movement. Condemning the spate of killings by police and paramilitary CRPF, Bar described the killings of the tender age youth, as “a process of genocide perpetrated by the Indian forces.” “India wants to kill our future generation to suppress the idea of right to self-determination,” he said.
Concerned over the spate of innocent killings, arbitrary arrests and other forms of human rights violations, Bar
appealed the international community to impress upon India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue by holding a free, fair and impartial plebiscite under United Nation’s resolutions passed on August 13, 1948, and January 5, 1949. Government has launched an aggression against unarmed peaceful protesters who are seeking peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue, Shaheen said.
Referring to the detention of HCBA President Mian Abdul Qayoom under Public Safety Act as an attack on judiciary, Shaheen said government has devised a policy to suppress the lawyers’ fraternity to curb them from pleading the detention cases of Kashmiri people, who are struggling for freedom.
As a mark of protest against the “undemocratic and unconstitutional arrest” of Qayoom, Bar Association has suspended the work in High Court and all subordinate courts of Kashmir till July 15. However, it has appealed all the lawyers of Kashmir to be present in High Court on July 14 to represent the PSA case of Qayoom. Bar said, “It will take every political and legal measure to make the honorable release of its President possible.”
Bar castigated national media for biased reporting of happenings in Kashmir and accused them for working to the tunes of Home Ministry.
Thousands of youth have been arrested during past 15 days and scores of them have been booked under PSA, Bar said.
“The denial of India in accepting the ground realities in Kashmir has cost honour, dignity and life of a nation, Bar said, adding that since 1947 India made every effort to subjugate the voice of Kashmiri people and have killed more than 5 lakh people. “The state repression in Kashmir is marked by gruesome killings, extra judicial murders, random arrests, illegal detentions and custodial disappearances, sexual abuse and exploitation of women as a weapon of war besides arson and destruction of the civilian property,” Bar said.
