No shortage of foodgrains in Valley: Govt

Srinagar, July 12: In view of the prolonged curfew and stringent security restrictions here, Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul today convened a meeting of high level officers to take stock of the supply position of the essentials in the Valley.
 The meeting, according to an official statement, was informed that “there is no shortage of foodgrains in the Valley and the department concerned is trying its best to reach to the people in a big way.” Giving details, the meeting was apprised that 3.20 lakh quintals of rice, 32,440 quintals wheat and 33,800 quintals of sugar is available in the godowns of CAPD and FCI for catering the need of people of the Valley.
 It was also informed that 2.21 lakh quintals of rice, 12,000 quintals wheat and 4,000 quintals sugar so far has been lifted by the department and dispatched to various destinations of the Valley for distribution during the current month. The sufficient quantity of petroleum products and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is available in the stocks, the meeting was informed.
 Addressing the meeting, Gul directed that the ration ghats both in rural and urban areas should be made functional as per the convenience of the people and urged for supply of essential commodities till late hours even on holidays. 
 He asked the authorities for organizing free langers for the patients and attendants visiting the hospitals from far-off places during disturbance. He also stressed for smooth functioning of Public Distribution System.
 The Advisor instructed to maintain stock registers properly duly attested by respective Deputy Director and Assistant Directors of CAPD.    The Advisor directed the Divisional Commissioner to ensure the punctuality in the offices and hospitals so that the common masses do not suffer.
 Gul also appealed the people to cooperate the Government in discharging essential services for the benefit of the common people. He said that the Government has established a control room in Directorate of CAPD department for the facility of people and asked the people to contact on telephone numbers 2455019 and 2472577 for availing mobile ration service.
