All Party Meet a damp squib: Mufti

Calls For Inclusive Peace Initiative

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, July 13: The patron of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party reiterated today that the Prime Minister should intervene and call a high level meeting to address the issues confronting Jammu and Kashmir.
Mufti described the All Party Meeting convened by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as fruitless exercise and said apart from the mainstream parties other groups should have been invited for the meeting to make it inclusive.
Local news agency KNS quoted Mufti as saying that the All Party Meeting has not yielded anything except for endorsing PDP’s demand for Prime Minister’s intervention. He said sense of insecurity has gripped Kashmir and cited tense atmosphere in and around the martyrs’ graveyard as an instance.
After paying tributes to martyrs of July 13, 1931, Mufti while talking to reporters said participation of other groups (separatists) in the meeting would help make the situation better.
They, he said, were also sons of the soil. “They could have helped in bringing the situation to normalcy,” he said.
He said the Prime Minister should take the initiative and call all the political parties and groups in the state for an inclusive discourse to bring permanent peace in the State.
Mufti said that the situation was not the issue but the Kashmir dispute was the problem. He said non-resolution of Kashmir dispute was responsible for the present situation.
Mufti said that stone pelting was not solution of any issue. He said India and Pakistan should take concrete steps to resolve the dispute peacefully. He said the resolution of the dispute would help South Asia achieve the cherished goal of peace, progress and prosperity.
