Police starts helpline

Srinagar, July 12: With no let up in restrictions in Shahr-e-Khaas –the police Tuesday started a helpline for the residents of the densely populated old City falling under police stations of Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar, MR Gunj and Safa Kadal.
Police said “anybody in distress could call the helpline number 2453214 for any kind of assistance.”
The Superintendent of Police, north City, Showkat Shah said the helpline has been started following media reports that the old City residents falling in the jurisdiction, were facing hardships.
“Basically, we have already been helping the people there be it in case of marriage or a funeral,” the SP told Greater Kashmir.
He said the police ferried some ailing to hospitals.
“We have issued standing instructions that any one in distress or for that matter even heading for marriage ceremony be provided adequate assistance,” the SP said.
He said the police was also facilitating the movement of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution trucks in Shahr-e-Khaas.
To a question that why the siege continues there, he said: “Restrictions are in place to avoid any law and order problem and also to safeguard public life and property.”
The said the “the people should feel free to call the helpline line in case they need assistance.”
