OIC Condemns Civilian Killings

United Nations, July 13: The United Nations has said that the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was aware of the prevailing situation in Kashmir since the unrest began a fortnight ago and was monitoring the situation, a UN spokesman has said.
The spokesman refrained from making any further comments on behalf of the UN chief. He pointed out that UN agencies, including the UN mission for India and Pakistan are also reporting on the situation in the region.
Meanwhile, Organization of the Islamic Conference has also condemned the use of force on the people of Kashmir and urged Indian authorities to respect Kashmiri peoples’ will and rights.
 OIC Secretary General Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in a statement issued from Jeddah expressed his deep concern and disappointment at the recent wave of “violence against the people of Kashmir by the Indian Police” who, according to the statement, fired at hundreds of protesters in Kashmir on Tuesday the 6 of July, killing and injuring many civilians.
 While condemning the continued use of force against the Kashmiri people, Ihsanoglu appealed the Indian authorities to avoid excessive use of force and respect the people’s will and rights in order to help improve the security situation in Kashmir.
