NO CLUE OF MISSING GIRLS: Dozens injured in fresh clashes
SHEIKH NASIR
Kishtwar, July 14: While the police remained clueless about the two girls, who went missing the other day, fresh protest erupted in Paddar area of this mountainous district on Wednesday forcing police to open fire in air.
However, reports reaching here, late this evening, revealed that the situation has improved in the area following filing of case against SHO of the concerned police station beside ex-gratia relief of Rs 75000 to each family. Police has also initiated an internal probe and directed the SDPO, concerned, to enquire and submit report within shortest possible time.
Eyewitnesses said that a large number of people again attacked the police station, this morning, with bricks and battons and tried to storm the police station. However, a heavy contingent of police, deployed in the area, foiled the attempt and fired several rounds in air and smoke shells to quell the mob.
The protestors also retaliated and in the ding dong battle, which lasted for more than three hours, dozens, including police personnel, were injured. Some of the injured were later shifted to Kishtwar hospital for treatment.
It was learnt that Divisional Commissioner and IGP Jammu also rushed to the area, this morning, and held a series of meetings with the local residents. “The Div Com sanctioned an ex-gratia relief of Rs 75000 to each family and government job to one member of the each family”, sources said adding, “Police also registered a case against SHO concerned beside ordering a departmental inquiry”.
