Gagging media: Not the spirit of democracy
It is really unfortunate that media in Kashmir is being gagged time and again. The authorities are trying to strangulate the truth whenever they feel the heat of facts. One really feels pity over actions which aim at muzzling the voice of the journalists, who have always been reporting in hard times in the Valley. Sometimes curfew passes are denied to them and sometimes they have to face the mob fury. How can they work effectively in such a situation? Gagging media is something that the international community must take a serious note of. It is not the question of doing it once and then restoring the curfew passes. It is the question and honour and dignity of the journalists who are being harassed for none of their faults. The Jammu and Kashmir government must apologize to the media organizations for the damage they have inflicted on them and for the hurt caused.
