Shopian case adjourned till mid-Aug

SAMAAN LATEEF

Srinagar, July 14: The High Court Wednesday considered the plea of Shakeel Ahmad Ahanger, husband of Neelofar Jan and brother of Asiya Jan in the Shopian Case, that advocate G N Shaheen would appear and assist the court.
Advocate Shaheen, who appeared in person on behalf of Shakeel, before the division bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Dr Aftab H Saikia and Justice Muhammad Yaqoub Mir, submitted that due to non-availability of public transport in Shopian, Shakeel could not appear before the court and sought adjournment of the case.
Shaheen informed the Bench that Shakeel wanted him “to appear and assist the court in the case on next date of hearing.”
The Division Bench considered the submission and listed the case for orders in second week of August.
The state government was represented by Advocate General M I Qadri and the Central Bureau of Investigation by Advocate Anil Bhan.
Due to strike across Kashmir, Majlis Mashawrat seeking justice for the victims, did not appear before the court.
