Youth goes missing before wedding day

Men in uniform abducted him: Family

ALTAF BABA

Khanpora (Varmul) July 15:  Grief is writ large on the faces of the inmates of the modest house of Abdul Rahim Dar, which should have been abuzz with the wedding activity on the day of marriage ceremony of his son Thursday.
There were no traditional songs (Wanwun) and instead people were visiting to inquire about the whereabouts of his missing son.
The family members said that Muhammad Rafiq Dar, 25, son of Abdul Rahim Dar of Khanpora was to get married on Thursday and all the necessary preparations for the wedding were over.
Rafiq, according to family, went to visit his cousin sister’s house on Sunday in Panthachowk locality of Srinagar and after night stay there left for Varmul on Monday.
“But he was abducted by some persons in uniform near Batmaloo Srinagar,” they said.
“My brother called his cousin sister and informed her that some persons in uniform has abducted him in a gypsy and his life is in danger,” said Rafiq’s brother Javed Ahmad.
“Our brother is not related with the militancy or the stone pelting. He is a hard worker who is aware about his responsibilities towards the family,” said Rafiq’s sister Afroza.
Police have refuted the charges of abduction by some security agencies and claimed that they have seized the mobile of Rafiq from which he had made his last call.
The police said they have arrested two persons who claimed that the mobile was sold by Rafiq to them.
“We arrested two persons in this connection and recovered the mobile from which the last call was made by Rafiq,” said a police official.
He added that people should not form their opinion that he was abducted by some ‘security agencies’.
“We are working on different angles and we hope the mystery would be solved soon,” he said.
