Mendhar siege enters 6th day

Rajouri, July 17: Two more troopers were injured in the continuing gunfight between militants and troops in Mendhar tehsil of district Poonch on Saturday. A siege around Beri-Rakh forest was laid by forces on Monday.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that two more troopers belonging to 38 RR were wounded in the gunfight with militants which took place in the wee hours of Saturday. The injured troopers have been identified as Subedar Vijay Kumar and Sepoy Dhanku Gandhi. Sources said Vijay Kumar was air-lifted to Command Hospital Udhampur for treatment.
In the past five days, one Major, two militants have been killed while 11 security personnel including the Commanding Officer of 37 RR and a Major of 38 RR have been wounded on different days in the ongoing encounter. The gunfight entered 6th day on Saturday without any word about its culmination. Troops claim that there are two militants present inside the forest.
