CABINET RESHUFFLE SOON

Govt To Relieve ‘Corrupt’ Ministers

Srinagar, July 18: The Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to relieve some cabinet ministers following charges of malpractices against them while the ruling National Conference is contemplating reshuffle in the party.
Local news agency, KNS, said after returning from New Delhi on Saturday evening, the chief minister, Omar Abdullah has started making preparations to relieve the “tainted ministers” and bring in some new faces in the cabinet. “For this reshuffle, Omas has got a nod from New Delhi,” KNS said.
It said New Delhi already knew that some cabinet ministers were involved in malpractices. “So the reshuffle is aimed at sending a message to the administrative circles that neither the state nor the centre government would tolerate any malpractice,” KNS said, adding, “National Conference has also made up its mind to relieve some of its ministers from the cabinet and things in this regard are being finalized.”
The National Conference has called a meeting of its working committee on July 22 to discuss the changes.
Quoting sources, KNS said the NC president, Dr Farooq Abdullah and general secretary, Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, may also be relieved keeping in view the ‘engagements’ of the former in New Delhi and the ailing health of the latter.
KNS said Omar was also unhappy with working of some of the Congress ministers, who may also be relieved of their charges. “Omar has consulted the Congress high command in this regard and is likely to get a nod from her in the next few days,” KNS said.
When contacted, senior NC leader, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, feigned ignorance about any changes being made in the cabinet. “The Working committee meet has been called in to discuss how to strengthen the party at the grassroots level,” Kamal said.
