Hurriyat (M) seeks int’l intervention on HR violations
Srinagar, July 18: The Hurriyat Conference (M) led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday sought intervention of international human rights organizations over the increasing human rights violations and present situation in Kashmir.
In a statement, the spokesperson quoting Mirwaiz said, “In view of the present crisis in Kashmir, the international human rights organizations should intervene and impress upon India to stop the killings.”
Hurriyat condemned the use of force on peaceful protesters and the killing of a teenager by paramilitary CRPF in Varmul on Saturday.
The Hurriyat Conference (M) accused the government of implicating its leaders and activists for what it said suppressing the ongoing agitation.
Hurriyat spokesman said its senior leader and chairman of Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Bhat, who was arrested last month, has been booked under PSA and shifted to the Kot Balwal jail.
It said besides many senior activists including Muzaffar Ahmad Yatoo, Bilal Ahmad Beg and Urfat Ahmad Beg, Muhammad Maqbool Sofi, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Umar who were arrested during the Sopur Chalo march have also been booked under PSA. It said most to them have been shifted to Jammu jails.
