New Delhi, July 18: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from the Ministry of Home Affairs on alleged firing by CRPF personnel in north Kashmir’s Sopur town on June 27 in which a youth was killed.
 Issuing a notice to the Union Home Secretary in this regard, the Commission asked him to submit a report on the incident within four weeks.
 “On default, the commission may proceed to take such action as it deems proper,” it said.
 The NHRC took cognizance of the matter on the basis of a complaint filed by a rights activist and lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy.
 A youth Bilal Wani was killed after CRPF personnel allegedly fired rubber bullets on a stone-pelting mob that had defied curfew in Sopore town on June 27, two days after a similar incident left two civilians dead sparking protests in the Valley.
 In his complaint, Tripathy asked the commission to take steps to “immediately stop “ such incidents and recommend monetary relief to next of kin of Wani, saying he was the only son of Maqbool Wani.
 “This is third incident in two days in which a civilian was killed by the security forces. No police officer was ready to divulge details of the shootout,” he charged.
