Poonch gunfight enters into 7th day, encounter on in B’pore

Jammu/Srinagar July 18: A militant was killed in an encounter in Kisthwar district, while two troopers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were wounded in Poonch encounter which entered into 7th day today, and gunfight broke out between militants and troopers in Bandipore district, police and reports said on Sunday.

“A joint party of policemen and troopers cordoned off Konighot forest in Jammu’s Kishtiwar district this morning and launched searches. Militants present there opened fire on them which was retaliated triggering a gunfight in which an unidentified militant was killed,” a police official said.
“Another associate of the slain militant has most probably fled from the spot taking cover of the thick forest. The search is still going on,” the official added.
POONCH ENCOUNTER
The gun battle between militants and troopers in Jammu’s Poonch district entered into seventh day on Sunday.
“Two troopers, including a JCO, were wounded today as the fresh skirmishes between troops and militants broke out in Beri Rakhi forests near Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar tehsil,” a police official said.
He identified the injured troopers as JCO-Vijay Kumar and sepoy Gathi Kurlay of Rashtriya Rifles.
Pertinently, two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and the Major, Amit Phunge have been killed and 11 troopers including the Colonel Ajay Katoch and Major G R Shikhawat have been injured since the day gunfight broke out.
ENCOUNTER ON IN BANDIPORE
A gun battle between militants and troopers broke out at Dar Mohalla in Garoora in north Kashmir’s Bandipore district on Sunday, police said.
