Mirwaiz, Ansari, Shahid, Under House Arrest

Srinagar, July 18: Authorities have booked the general secretary of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Ghulam Nabi Shaheen under Public Safety Act (PSA) and have shifted him to District Jail Rajouri.
Shaheen, who had led a protest demonstration here in support of the demand for release of Bar president Mian Abdul Qayoom yesterday, was arrested from Lethpora, 25km from here, last evening, a HCBA spokesperson said.
He said Shaheen was on way to his Tral residence when police intercepted him. He was immediately booked under PSA and sent to Rajouri Jail.
Meanwhile, in a statement a Hurriyat spokesman said its senior leader and chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Bhat, who was arrested last month, has been booked under PSA and shifted to the Kot Balwal jail.
The statement said the authorities have placed the Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior leaders, including Abass Hussain Ansari  and advocate Shahid-ul-Islam under house arrest.
“The authorities cannot deter our resolve to carry on the movement by harassing and arresting our leaders and activists. We appeal the people to adhere to the conglomerate’s program,” it said.
