On Doctors’ Day, SKIMS honours doctors

Srinagar, July 1: The SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on Thursday observed Doctors’ Day and felicitated some of the prominent medicos on the occasion.
An official handout said Vice-Chancellor, Kashmir University, Professor Riyaz Punjabi was the chief guest on the occasion.
“On this occasion reputed clinicians from the state where honoured during the function held in the SKIMS Auditorium; these included: Prof M Yusuf, (Ex-HOD, Medicine GMC, and Srinagar), Prof Bilquees Jamella, (Ex-HOD OBG, GMC Srinagar), Prof Abdul Wahid (Ex-HOD, Medicine SKIMS), Prof G Q Peer (Ex-HOD Surgery, SKIMS) and Prof Akhter Jan Naqeeb (Ex-Professor, Anaesthesiology, SKIMS),” the handout said.
The KU VC Prof Riyaz Punjabi “admired the work of Valley doctors’ who showed social commitment through some very difficult times in the last 20 years.”
The Director SKIMS, Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar emphasized that SKIMS would continue to serve the community with the “dedication and zeal that its employees have shown in the last three decades.”
“We at SKIMS work relentlessly to take care of the sick through uneven and unpredictable times,” Dr Zargar added.
Prof Sheikh Aijaz, the Organising Secretary of the event welcomed the guests and explained the importance of the day.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Dean, Prof M A Darzi and Dr Viqar Jan.
On this occasion an essay competition was organized on Medical Ethics and Current Medical Practice. Dr Masarat Jabeen(Kashmir Health Services) won the first prize while Dr Irfan Nazir( SKIMS) won second prize. “Drs Javid Ahmad and Shah Tauseef Arjumand (both from SKIMS Medical College) shared the third prize,” the handout added.
This function was attended by Ex-Director, Ex-Deans, faculty of SKIMS, SKIMS Medical College, GMC , resident doctors and institute employees.
