Police harasses children: Parents

Srinagar, July 1: The Srinagarites of some City areas have accused the City police of harassment saying their wards were being “unnecessarily” asked to appear at the local Police Stations everyday since past week when protests erupted against civilian killings.
 Greater Kashmir received calls from many City areas that the youth were being asked to “mark their attendance at the police stations on regular basis.”
 “This is typical harassment. Why should a person appear at a police station everyday without any crime?” argued a delegation of complainants.
 When contacted, a senior police official while downplaying the matter said “some miscreants want to defame us.”
 He, however, said: “A few boys having past involvement in stone pelting could be asked to appear at police stations as a preventive measure.”
 “But nobody is detained or harassed. Such boys just come and go. It’s a kind of counseling,” he added.
