‘Security Forces Treat People As Enemies’

Srinagar July 1: Chairman of Peoples Conference, Sajad Lone Thursday condemned the unabated killing of youth in the valley.
“The security forces are treating the general population as hostile enemies. Force is being used against unarmed demonstrators. If the government is so confident about its democratic credentials, they should lift restrictions and allow free expression of dissent. Continued use of force and belief in operational methods of curbing dissent will only result in more loss of precious young lives. Time has come to accept the fallibility of managing peace through fortified bunkers,” Sajad said in a statement.
 “We appeal to the people of Kashmir not to allow their anger to spill over and in any way impede the conduct of Yatra. The Yatris have been our guests historically and we take pride in extending our hospitality to them. Political forces irrespective of their ideologies need to understand the importance of ensuring a smooth Yatra for the guest pilgrims,” he said.
