Samiti calls for Jammu bandh
SYED AMJAD SHAH
Jammu, July 1: Sangarsh Samiti, an association of various Jammu based political parties and groups, has called for Jammu bandh on July 3 against the attacks on the security forces and alleged attacks on some religious places in South Kashmir.
The Samiti called all its constituents to discuss the prevailing situation in Kashmir Valley, here on Thursday. It was observed in the meeting that the situation in Valley was handiwork of separatists, who were fuelling anti-India sentiment for their own vested interest, a spokesman of Samiti said.
“We feel that the present situation has been created only to disrupt Amarnath Yatra”, Convener of Samiti Brigadier (Retd) Sucheet Singh said.
He said that the meeting decided to call for Jammu bandh on Saturday to protest against the attack on some religious places in south Kashmir besides attack on Jammu based drivers and some media persons.
The Samiti has demanded deployment of army in the Kashmir Valley to control the situation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Jai Paul Singh has termed the rumours about damage to Shivala Mandir, in the town as totally baseless and far from truth.
“I have personally visited the Mandir and found it in its original condition as it existed and no damage has been caused to it,” Singh said.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has also refuted the allegations of any damage to the Mandir.
