Srinagar, July 19: Two persons were killed and four wounded in two road mishaps in the City Monday, police and reports said.
 In the morning, a youth was killed and three others injured at Batamaloo when the car they were traveling in was hit by a police bus. The incident triggered massive protests.
 Witnesses said a Maruti Alto, JK01L-8586, collided with a police coach, JK02H-9896, of IRP 4th Battalion, near Police Control Room crossing at Batamaloo. The four onboard were seriously injured while the driver later succumbed.
 They were shifted to SMHS hospital where Nadeem Ahmad Mir, 25, son of Irshad Ahmad Mir presently residing at Shalteng on the City outskirts breathed his last. He was from Abur, Tangmarg and a close relative of District Development Commissioner, Kupwara, Showkat Ahmed Mir.
 The injured were identified as the deceased’s brother, Naveed Ahmad, Suhail Ahmed Darand Abdul Qayoom.
 The body of the deceased was later handed over to his family at Shalteng. As the word about his death spread, people poured out on streets and staged anti-police protests.
 The police and CRPF personnel were called into the area to stave off protests.
 Protests also broke out in Batmaloo locality as locals including women staged anti-police demonstrations. Police used force to disperse the protesters who demanded arrest of the police bus driver.
 Policemen also allegedly thrashed media persons who were covering the incident. Sweed Bashir, a cameraman with Mouj-Kasheer channel was injured in the police action. His leg was fractured. Police later imposed restrictions in the area.
 Police said it has registered an FIR regarding the mishap at police station, Batamaloo.
 SHO, Batamaloo police station, Zahoor Ahmad, told Greater Kashmir that the accused driver, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat has been arrested and both the vehicles have been seized. Police has registered a case 83/2010 under section 279, 337, 304 (A), RPC.
 Pertinently, it is the second accident in the area involving death in the past four days.
 On Friday morning, Abdul Ahad Bhat, 70, of Saidapora, Eidgah was hit by an unknown vehicle at the same spot.
 He later died at SKIMS. The family said that many witnesses told them that a “Rakshak” police jeep had hit him while riding scooter.
 Meanwhile, the principal, faculty, staff and students of Institute Hotel Management, Raj Bagh, Srinagar condoled Nadeem’s death. Nadeem was tourism professional and had recently completed his Master’s in Tourism Administration from Bangalore University.
 In a separate accident, a teenage girl was killed and her mother wounded on the Sanat Nagar highway on the City outskirts.
Police said a cab, JK02AN-2638, hit the duo when mother Tabasum wife of Javed Ahmed was accompanying her teenager daughter, Anna for tuitions.
 Anna, a class 11th student of Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School Raj Bagh and her mother, as per reports, were returning home when the mishap occurred.
Anna’s mother, wounded critically, is battling for life at SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura.
