4 of family among 5 killed, 12 hurt in Jmu road mishaps

Jammu, July 19: Five persons, including four members of a family and an army Subedar were killed, while 12 others were injured, in road mishaps across Jammu region since last 24 hours, official sources said.
 Four members of a family including a cop, his wife and their two minor children died when a car (JK014B-3922), they were travelling in, skidded off the road and plunged into a 450 deep nallah at Assar this morning.
 The accident took place, when Manjeet Singh, car driver (its owner) lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve. They were on their way from Bhaderwah to Udhampur, when the mishap occurred.
 On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. With hectic efforts, police and locals, retrieved the bodies from the site and rushed them to hospital, where all of them were declared as brought dead, sources said.
 The deceased have been identified as constable of JK Police Manjeet Singh son of Bishan Singh of Pooni Majalata (Udhampur), his wife Anu Kotwal and their two minor children Manik (10) and Golu (8). The police constable was presently posted with Advocate Ghulam Muhammad Shah of Chenani.
 In another, mishap an army Subedar lost his life when a vehicle crushed him at Devak on Monday. He died on way to the hospital, witnesses said. The deceased has been identified as Ranjeet of 18 Dogra regiment posted at Devak (Sunderbani) in border district Rajouri.
 Meanwhile, 12 people sustained injuries, when an over crowded mini bus (JK02A-5587) on way from Lambadi to Sunderbani, turned turtle at Thanda Pani (Sunderbani), area, eyewitnesses said.
 They said police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital, while two critically injured persons Krishna Devi wife of Romesh Chander of Seot and Ved Prakesh son of Kaka Ram of Lamadi were referred to the government medical college hospital Jammu for advanced treatment. Police have registered cases.
