Jama’at condemns Shaheen’s detention
Srinagar: Strongly condemning the detention of the High Court Bar Association general secretary, G N Shaheen under Public Safety Act, the Jama’at Islami has termed it the reflection of fascist mentality of the local regime.
In a statement, its spokesman, advocate Zahid Ali said, “Jamaat-e-Islami asks people at the helm of affairs here to honour the public sentiments and give up anti-people and anti-democracy actions and release detainees including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, M Ashraf Sehrai, Mian Qayoom, Gen Musa, Shabir Shah, Yasin Malik, Dr Qasim, G N Shaheen, Yusuf Mujahid without any delay.” He said “the unjustified arrest of youth and their release in lieu of ransom is an imperialistic action and the shifting of detainees including Zaffar Akbar Bhat, M Yusuf Mujahid, M Ashraf Laya and other pro-freedom leaders to the Jammu jails are gross human rights violation.”
Meanwhile, the party urged the pro-freedom youth to come forward and help in conveyance of milk, bread and other basic items to the inaccessible areas so that public particularly children, women and elderly persons are not put to unbearable sufferings.
