PC, Pillai security upgraded

Naxal Threat

New Delhi, July 19: Central government has heightened the securities of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Home Secretary G K Pillai after getting warnings from intelligence agencies of a possible threat from Naxals.
According to a Delhi-based news channel, the intelligence agencies had got intercepts of Naxal communication which indicated that the rebels wanted to avenge the death of Azad.
Intelligence hinted that the Maoists wanted to kill the two leaders for the killing of their colleague Azad. CPI-Maoist politburo member and spokesman Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad was killed in a shootout with the police at Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh on July 2.
As reported by the news channel, instead of pistols, Chidambaram’s security personnel are now carrying AK-47 guns as part of the enhanced precautions.
