Fayaz’s bride turns widow
ALTAF BABA
Binner (Varmul) July 20: It was just one month back that the one-storey modest house of Masooda was abuzz with traditional wanwun, relatives coming to greet her on her marriage. Now the house is in mourning. The same people are now coming to console her on the tragic end of his husband, Fayaz, who was killed in police firing on a protest demonstration in Varmul on July 19.
Fayaz Ahmad (26 years) was killed on Monday when after his return from work, he found thousands of people agitating in the town over the alleged forced drowning of 13-year old Faizan whose body was retrieved from river Jehlum. As the atmosphere was charged with emotions he joined the protesters and received a bullet in his chest after the mourners were fired at by police near DC office Varmul.
Fayaz was not only the caretaker of the family but an asset for the villagers who were moved by his sober nature.
This groom had turned a labor after his previous place of work, a hotel, where he was working as a waiter was closed due to the continuous strikes in the valley.
As Fayaz left the house on the fateful day, he assured his ailing father-in-law that he will collect the due money from his employer after some days.
“He said that he will take me to a doctor for my neurological problem after some days as he was to receive 3000 rupees from his boss,” says Rehmatullah Shah, Fayaz’s father-in-law.
The family of Rehmatullah Shah is now shattered as Fayaz was not only a son-in-law to the family but a real son who was sharing all responsibilities of the family.
“After I married off my two daughters I decided to adopt a son-in-law for my youngest daughter as I have no son. Fayaz turned out to be a real son for me. His sober nature and his inclination towards religion made me proud always but the cruel hands snatched him from me for ever,” said Rehmatullah Shah.
Fayaz’s mother is so depressed that she is not able to utter a single word as tragedy has struck her second time in just a few years. Her another son in his youth was drowned in river while taking a bath.
Fayaz originally belonged to Danemuh area of Kandi Varmul and was buried at Binner Varmul.
