Guv for scientific conservation of heritage buildings, sites
Srinagar, July 20: The Governor, N N Vohra, today said that Jammu and Kashmir had a vast treasure of historical sites and heritage buildings of tremendous tourist interest which need to be conserved and protected in a scientific manner.
The Governor while interacting with a team of experts of INTACH, which called on him at Raj Bhavan here this evening complimented INTACH for its continuing efforts to preserve the rich history and heritage of the three regions of the state
The team, comprising Saleem Beg, , Saima Iqbal, Muzamil Yasin, Anjum Bhat and two foreign experts, Dr. Jan Haernaest, landscape and conservation expert on historic gardens and Sarra Javed, an Urban Planner from USA, discussed with the Governor the salient features of the plans being formulated for the conservation and restoration of famous Mughal Gardens of Nishat and Shalimar and urban renewal of Jehlum river front from Zainakadal to Maharaj Ganj in Srinagar city.
