I can identify the killer cops: Witness tells court

Islamabad, July 20: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) of police, probing the cold blooded murder of three teenagers allegedly by police on June 29, today recorded the statement of one of the key witnesses into the incident in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).
The witness reportedly deposed before the Investigating officer SIT, Muneer Ahmad, who after his satisfaction moved a motion before CJM court Islamabad for recording the statement under Section 164 A CRPC.
Subsequently, the witness deposed before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Islamabad, Jeema Bashir and got the statement recorded. Sources said that the person who got his statement recorded is a direct witness into the cold blooded murder and will help the investigating agency to reach to the main culprits.
“The person is a witness into the case and his statement will lead to the identification and arrest of culprits,” sources said.
Sources said that witness is learnt to have stated that a police official along with his two sub-ordinates got down in front of a Creche in S.K. Colony and subsequently chased the protesters inside one of the by-lanes opposite to it leading towards Anchidora.
“The witness is also learnt to have revealed that he had seen Ishtiyaq Khanday, one of the victims, minutes before the incident as he (Ishtiyaq) had gone to purchase bread from a nearby bakery,” sources said.
Furthermore, the sources said he has stated that after spotting the police personnel chasing all those present there, all including he (the witness) ran for safety and entered the residential house of Ishtiyaq Khanday at Anchidora. While some of them managed to enter the house the others were fired at just outside then main gate and others in the lawn of the house.
The witness also stated that he had a narrow escape as one of the bullets went close through his ear but he managed to run away and enter inside Khanday’s house.
“I can identify all the police personnel if I happen to see them who were chasing the protesters inside the by-lane and those who fired upon the teenagers and later kicked them as well as one of the critically injured persons while they were lying in a pool of blood,” the witness is learnt to have told the CJM while describing the physical structure of the policemen.
Three teenagers were killed and four other persons injured on June 29 when the police personnel fired at them in the lawn of a houses in Anchidora area while chasing them in a Rakhshak vehicle. Clashes were on at Laizbal area of K.P Road nearly one kilometer away from the spot. Following widespread protests in the town the government ordered an magisterial enquiry into the incident the report of which is expected to be furnished within a few days.
Police also formed its own enquiry team to probe the incident and appointed DSP (DR) as the enquiry officer.
Sources say that some more witnesses are expected to depose and get their statements recorded in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the police investigating team has also reportedly visited SKIMS in Srinagar where they have got the statement from one of the critically injured persons, Fayaz Ahmad Rather of Qazibagh, Islamabad.
