‘Lock houses, shops, vehicles; take to streets’

Srinagar, July 20: Dukhtaran-e-Millat, chairperson, Syeda Aasiya Andrabi on Tuesday appealed to the people to make the Hurriyat (G)’s sit-in programme for Wednesday and Thursday successful.
In a statement, Aasiya said the people should lock their houses, shops and vehicles and take to the streets. “I make a fervent appeal to the people to stage sit-in at their respective localities. Let us show to the world that we want resolution of the Kashmir dispute according to our aspirations and wishes,” she said.
She appealed to the transporters, traders, students and teachers of the Universities, colleges and schools of the Valley to participate in the programme. “At a time when our youth are being killed with impunity, we have to remain united at this crucial juncture and fight valiantly against the suppression and discrimination,” she said.
She said those who take pride in defying the protest programme need to do self-introspection. “They should empathize with the families of the victims and lend support to the movement. They should understand that the sit-in programme is for respect, sanctity freedom and prosperous future of Kashmir,” she added.
