Talks failed?
This refers to the recent Indo-Pak foreign minister level talks and the controversy thereof. The foreign ministers of the two countries in their joint press conference described the meeting as cordial, frank in which all issues were discussed. For India Mumbai attack and terrorism was the core issue and for Pakistan it was Kashmir. India again got the assurance from Pakistan that its territory won't be used for anti-India activities and action against perpetrators of Mumbai attack would be ensured. As far as Kashmir is concerned the two countries seem to have agreed to restart the dialogue where it was left during the General Musharraf’s regime. It was clear from Qureshi's reference to the "progress made in last four years on Kashmir" that both countries have now decided to go with Musharaf’s formula on Kashmir. But the whole dialogue changed into a controversy when media men asked certain questions. There was a lot of cry in India on Qureshi's statement but Indian leadership to some extent responded in a positive way to carry forward the dialogue. The two countries must understand each others concerns and ensure a result oriented progress on all issues, including Kashmir.
