Hurriyat (M) to provide legal aid to arrested youth
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 21: Expressing serious concern over the arrest of hundreds of youth across the Valley, the Hurriyat Conference (M) on Wednesday urged their parents to contact its central office for legal aid to seek their release.
“Parents or other family members of arrested youth should approach the Hurriyat central office, Rajbagh, here along with all required information so that it can provide necessary legal aid to them for their release. They may contact on Phone Nos. 2452896, 2479652 and Fax No. 2450673,” a Hurriyat spokesman said in a statement.
He strongly condemned the continued house arrest of Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and detention of Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Mian Abdul Qayoom and G N Shaheen under Public Safety Act (PSA).
He also deplored the arrest of Muhammad Yasin Malik, Hakim Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Maqbool Sofi and hundreds of innocent youth.
The spokesman said the declared and undeclared curfew in Valley continued for the 19th day today making the life of civilians miserable.
Reacting to the statement of Union Home Secretary G K Pillai blaming Pakistan and Hurriyat Conference for worsening situation in Kashmir, the spokesman alleged that the Government of India and the state government were in fact responsible for it.
“When in 2006 and 2007 the Hurriyat Conference held talks with Government of Pakistan and Government of India, it stressed for involvement of Pakistan in talks to make these successful and put forth some proposals for bringing improvement in the ground situation in Kashmir. The proposals included revocation of AFSPA, Disturbed Areas Act and other black laws, demilitarization, unconditional release of all detainees, restoration of trade between people living in either side of border and opening of all closed routes between the two parts of state. But unfortunately India continued its policy of stubbornness and avoidance and dilly-dallying tactics,” he added.
