Noor-ud-Deen Qureshi is no more!

Srinagar, July 21: Noted bureaucrat Khawaja Noor-ud-Deen Qureshi, retired Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Education Department, passed away Wednesday morning at his Jawahar Nagar residence after a brief illness. His mortal remains were laid to rest at the graveyard adjoining KG Polytechnic. A large number of people joined the Jinazah prayers.
 Born in Habba Kadal on March 7th, 1924 Qureshi was known for his competence and uprightness. He had the distinction of working as Steno to the founder of Pakistan, Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah; as an aide to Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah; Deputy Secretary to G M Sadiq the then CM; Secretary to LK Jah, the then Governor of J&K.
 He was first Kashmiri to have worked in Paramount Pictures, Bombay as a Manager. During his service career he also worked as Director, Estates Department, where his contribution in the shape of bringing in reforms in service conditions of employees is still remembered. He also worked as Additional Secretary & then Special Secretary Finance and finally retired as Commissioner cum secretary to Government, Education Department in 1984. Post retirement late Sheikh Abdullah utilized his services as project director of Women’s Polytechnic which assignment he worked for six months. He lived a simple life and left an indelible mark on the minds of his friends and colleagues.
