‘No talks till killings, atrocities end’
Mirwaiz refuses to hold deliberations with track-II team

Srinagar, July 21: The Chairman of Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday refused to hold deliberations with a team of political observers from New Delhi saying, killings and talks can’t go together.
Hurriyat insiders told Greater Kashmir that the 3-member team, which is assessing the situation in the Valley,
had approached Mirwaiz to discuss the prevailing situation and create conditions to revive internal dialogue.
“Mirwaiz refused to meet them and maintained that the conglomerate will not talk with New Delhi or its representatives unless all the political prisoners all released, Armed Forces Special Powers Act is revoked and the troopers are shifted from the civilian areas from the Valley,” they added.
“How can we talk when bullets are sprayed on peaceful protesters demanding resolution of the dispute? Thousands of youth protesting against the killings have been implicated in false cases and booked under Public Safety Act. The Valley has been turned into a garrison to quell the just protests. Kashmiris are passing through trepidation and talks offer has added insult to our injuries. Killings and talks can’t go together,” sources quoted
Mirwaiz as having said.
The team would be submitting a comprehensive report to the New Delhi over the prevailing situation in the Valley.
Incidentally, Mirwaiz has been maintaining that elections, administrative changes or economic packages can’t be substitute to the right of self-determination guaranteed by the United Nations to the Kashmiris.
“Kashmir is not a military problem. It has to be resolved in its historical perspective and aspirations of Kashmiris who as basic party to the dispute have made countless sacrifices since 1947 for the just cause,” Mirwaiz had said recently.
