2 militants killed in Handwara: Army
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 22: Army on Thursday claimed to have killed two militants in Wadder Bala forests of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The Srinagar-based Defence spokesman, Lt Col J.S Brar told Greater Kashmir that gunfight broke out in the forests of Waddar Bala in Rajwar area of Handwara on Wednesday night. “It ended this morning with the killing of two militants,” he said.
Police sources told Greater Kashmir that troopers of 21 Rashtriya Rifles had launched the operation. “They handed two bodies to us and their identity is yet to be ascertained,” a police official said.
The gunfight erupted a day after police claimed to have killed two militants including Harkat-ul-Muhjahideen chief Nouman in a gunfight in Hygam Sopur.
Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen “tortured to death” a contractor after allegedly abducting him from his house in Kishtwar district, police said. The incident took place when three unidentified gunmen barged into the house of Muhammad Ramzan Khandey at Lidreri village of Kishtwar last night and abducted him, they said.
His body was recovered later in the forests.
An anti-personnel mine was Thursday detected by the troopers at an agricultural land along the Indo-Pak border in R S Pura border belt of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. “Troopers rushed to Jabowal village and detected the landmine”, they said. “It was later defused.”
