Ellahi Bagh residents allege infringement of privacy
Demand action against ‘erring’ SMC official
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 22: The residents of Ellahi Bagh Soura living along the 90 Feet road, popularly known as Nammath have accused the Srinagar Municipal Corporation of shielding a “blue eyed” Khilafwarzi Officer who demolished a compound wall of a local, Manzoor Ahmed Kanth, a few days ago.
A delegation of the residents clarified before Greater Kashmir that a Khilafwarzi Officer who they said happens to be close relative of a local forcibly barged into the Kanth’s house when his daughter’s were alone there.
“The fact of the matter is that one of my neighbors, XXX (name withheld) used the influence of his brother-in-law, a Khilaf Warzi officer and they jointly made an attempt to demolish a portion of the wall of my compound. Both of them had brought a number of people to perform this act. I am not bothered about the demolition,” Kanth told Greater Kashmir.
“What is annoying is that they made a forced entry in my house at a time when only my two female children where present there having no male member of the family around nor was my wife there as she had left to attend her duties,” he said.
Kanth said his neighbors heard the cries of his daughters and “this enraged them and they strongly protested against the way SMC employees conduct.”
“He (SMC official) should have given a prior information to me so that some elderly person could remain at home… It has become a routine with him to harass people for petty reasons,” the complainant alleged.
The residents said: “It is the duty of SMS authorities to hold their employees against performing ugly acts and also to see how many buildings without permission have recently been constructed at 90 feet road, Ellahi Bagh under the patronage of the SMC official.”
Despite repeated attempts the accused official couldn’t be contacted for comment. Meanwhile, the residents have again appealed the SMC Commissioner Sheikh Mushtaq to look into the matter and take strict action against the accused.
