SMC vehicle set ablaze at Achan
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 22: A Srinagar Municipal Corporation truck on its way back from the Achan dumping yard was set ablaze by some miscreants outside the dumping yard, the SMC officials Thursday said.
They said the truck driver had a narrow escape when he was chased by a mob and he finally had to abandon the vehicle and run for cover.
Police has filed a case. The SMC officials alleged that it could be handiwork of the “Achan land mafia”.
“They(mafia) want to cash the present crisis for their undue demands,” a senior SMC official said.
The SMC Commissioner, Sheikh Mushtaq is learnt to have taken up the matter of “adequate police protection for his staff with higher officials.”
Meanwhile, the SMC Health Officer Dr Reyaz Ahmed has appealed the people to provide “safe passage” to the SMC trucks ferrying garbage to the dumping yard.
