Jammu, July 23: The students of four colleges in Jammu city on Friday boycotted their classes to protest the government’s decision of increasing the passenger fare by 13 per cent.
They also expressed resentment against the Jammu University’s decision to hike fee structure of various Post Graduate courses by 15 per cent from current academic session.
Led by the leaders of Jammu Joint Students’ Federation, the students of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, MAM Post-Graduate College, Government College for Commerce and Government Degree College, Paloura boycotted their class and demanded immediate roll back of hike in passenger fare.
They demanded that the government should either issue strict directions to transporters for extended concession to students or increased passenger fare be rolled back.
The agitating students also castigated the JU for putting extra burden on poor students by increasing 15 percent fee structure of different PG courses.
“If the government did not take appropriate measures to resolve the issues of student community, we will intensify our agitation,” they warned.
