‘Govt keen to introduce e-governance in all deptts’

Srinagar, July 24: Minister for Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has said the present government is keen to introduce e-governance in all departments, adding that IT is a strong tool for speeding up process of socio-economic transformation and economic development.
The minister has said that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has revolutionized the style of working in all spheres of life, adding this technology facilitates project management, programmes implementation and monitoring of development schemes.
The Minister was speaking at a day–long conference on Information Technology here Friday. The conference was organized by Department of Science & Technology and Information Technology.
The Minister said that ICT greatly helps in improving delivery of public services. He said the communication technology is imperative for improving governance as it promotes transparency and accountability in the administrative system.
The Minister underscored the need for strengthening e-Governance initiatives across the State so that information about Government programme and policies are made accessible to public.
This, he said, will not only help reduce time, cost and distance but would also help Government to become more responsive and public oriented.
