Way to salvation
Have a resolve to resolve the problem
VIEWPOINT BY G. N. WADOO
Imposition of the prolonged curfew and deployment of huge columns of army and paramilitary forces is not a solution to restore normalcy in the valley. On the other hand it is against the democratic norms of the country and the fundamental rights of the people and such coercive methods have to be likened to the outburst of a dormant volcano of highest degree or outbreak of epidemic and the highest detriment to the democratic set up which will obviously make the state politicians “run out” on an unfavorable pitch between Srinagar and New Delhi, because our mainstream politicians etc. are often running between the wickets from Srinagar to New Delhi and back which have only added to the killings on the score board.
The politicians in the mainstream and the opposition are equally responsible and answerable for all the happenings in the valley because they are our leaders. The silence of the mainstream leaders on the tragic and phased killings of the teenagers, the youth and the aged is deplorable which has made the State Government machinery completely defunct. The Government plans and broad based development works have virtually lost significance and admiration of the people because people have lost faith in the government assurances and commitments as people are passing the life under curfew, civil curfew, hartals etc. and are crushed thereof.
In fact the people of the valley are under siege. The commuters and the business classes have been rendered idle because all the streets, market places, malls and other business centres remained closed. Healthcare has deteriorated to the extent that the general and serious patients are unable to reach to clinics, dispensaries and the hospitals, laboratories etc. In emergency cases like accidents and the maternity, it becomes risky due to curfew and prohibitory orders as nobody has a way out. The schools, colleges and the universities have become haunted houses because the education has received a total setback, the students are unable to attend classes for completing their courses on time, the academic session is getting delayed and the students are likely to cut a sorry figure in the examinations. As such the teaching and non teaching staff and the allied cadres have become idle and sick. Same is true of all the government service classes who have also nothing to do except to be confined indoors. The transport industry is in miserable condition because they (transporters) cannot pay dues to their finances and other agencies. Therefore every section of the society is running idle and same is true of poor classes of society who hardly make any earning.
In fact freedom struggle and life struggle should go parallel and none should encroach upon the other - By life struggle I understand earning the livelihood and learning i.e. education because these two essentials of life cannot be skipped and sacrificed due to frequent hartals and lock outs. If hartals and lockouts are continued beyond limit, it will bring starvation to the people for want of earning their livelihood and likewise the negligence towards education with bear negative results in the long run and that will disseminate the feeling of nothingness among the masses. It is an old saying that “A bird in hand is better than two in the bush” to be associated with our life struggle.
Our leaders in the freedom camp are not strange to the problems of the people of Kashmir who have shown an exemplary courage under all regimes since a century before and have witnessed all kinds of human rights violations and the history is replete with all such violations carried out by different regimes under vague excuses from time to time and there is no end to our bloodshed. The people of Kashmir have been declared “OUT” by the umpire democrats of the country and their advisors and the patriots who do not want that the burning issue of Kashmir should get resolved during their lifetime because of their power politics. Therefore it is evident that India has put Kashmir in trouble and Kashmir on the other hand has put India in trouble as a compliment. Obviously the politics of “Status quo” by the Indian Government will serve no purpose, the veteran politicians of India and Pakistan have to be engaged in dialogues, not deadlocks, for resolution of Kashmir by involving the leaders of Hurriyat factions and the political parties of the State as well.
Failure of talks between the countries so far is a result of their trust deficit. This sort of a dialogue ends in a deadlock and proves the failure of the two neighbourly countries to evolve a strategy to live as friends not foes. It is definitely a utopian task to decide Kashmir if taken so and on the other hand it is a simple political process that could help the resolution of Kashmir by meaningful dialogues and discourses between the countries and all streams of political parties. It only needs the willpower, dedication and determination of the statesmen, politicians, academicians and advocates of human rights of the county(ies) to come forward having their national interests aside in order to resolving the burning Kashmir issue with a clear mindset and honest deliberations and dialogues by ending the human rights violations so that the people of Kashmir are pleased with the outcome of bilateral or trilateral talks of the neighbouring countries and especially the people of the State without playing the political tricks and delaying the political process.
The people of Kashmir want a solution to the problem and those who give an amicable solution will have a feather in their cap. I understand that the politicians and statesman are called the champions of peace. They have a moral duty to address the K issue and get it resolved without causing further delay and bringing further degeneration of the people of Kashmir. The Hurriat factions (G) and (M) may also kindly consider all the pros and cons before announcing their programmes.
