Srinagar, July 26: A day after alleged custodial killing of a youth, Tariq Ahmed in Police Station Panzala in north Kashmir’s Varmul district, authorities on Monday attached the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Police Station.
Sources told Greater Kashmir the SHO Panzala Shakeel Ahmed has been attached with police lines. Pertinently, Government after the incident had ordered magisterial probe and placed three policemen under suspension for dereliction of duties.
Following Tariq’s death on Sunday hundreds of people had taken to the roads and staged massive anti-police demonstrations. Locals had alleged that victim had been tortured to death in lockup.
The team of doctors that conducted autopsy of the deceased, according to the sources, would dispatch viscera to Forensic Science Laboratory Srinagar on Tuesday for the final opinion. “There are torture marks and signs of asphyxia as well,” a doctor wishing anonymity said, adding that the FSL opinion would determine the actual cause of death.”
Meanwhile sources told Greater Kashmir that inquiry officer, sub divisional magistrate Sopur Muhammad Ahsan Mir would begin the probe on Tuesday.
Minister visits family
Minister of State for R& B, Javid Ahamd Dar, who is also the local MLA, visited Panzala Rafiabad and condoled Tariq’s demise, an official spokesman said.
He also handed over relief cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the next of the kin and assured to carry out transparent magisterial probe into the incident, he added.
