Pulwama gets `56 cr annual plan

Srinagar July 27: Urging that development process initiated in the state should go ahead without any obstruction and impediment, Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, on Tuesday stressed upon the officers to maintain close liaison with public and ensure that targets fixed for developmental works are achieved within the stipulated time.
The Minister who is also Chairperson of District Development Board Pulwama was addressing Board meeting at Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI), Pampore wherein a hefty allocation of `55.98 crore was accorded approval for current fiscal to carry forward the development schemes and welfare programme in the district.
Of this amount, `20 crore are being spent on education, `8.50 crore on transport (R&B), `6.30 crore on Irrigation and Flood Control, `5.60 crore on Public Health,`3.75 crore on Social Welfare, `3.15 crore on Health, `2.75 crore on Self Employment, `2.20 crore on Rural Development and one crore on Agriculture and Allied Sector.
The District Development Commissioner, Pulwama, Muhammad Afzal Bhat gave power point presentation of previous year’s achievements and informed that 95.50 percent of total allocation of `61 crore was utilized by the end of March this year.
Regarding physical achievements, the meeting was informed that 90 Kms of road length was black topped, 1.50 Kms mettled, 20 bridges and culverts constructed, 12 new Primary Schools established and 9 upgraded to middle, 44400 students were provided text books free of cost, 4 irrigation schemes completed providing irrigation facilities to 1150 hectares of land, 960 houses completed under Indra Awas Yojana, 1000 transformers repaired, 15600 tonnes of fertilizers and 1000 quintal of high yielding variety seeds provided to farmers, 371 works completed under MGNREGA, generating 360 lakh mandays of work in the district. 13 water supply schemes completed, covering 24 villages, over 24000 beneficiaries covered under Social Welfare Pension Schemes. While as work on 12 Primary Health Centres is under execution in the district.
During the deliberations, the Minister enquired about the previous year’s board decisions held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Ms Sakina issued clear cut instructions on the spot to remove impediments if any so that the development process is carried out smoothly in the district.
The Minister expressed gratitude to legislators present in the meeting for giving meaningful suggestions to ensure sustainable development.
She stressed upon the officers to fix priority before initiating any development and welfare project so that the people could get instant benefit from the same.
