‘Revival Of Militancy In Punjab’

Amritsar, July 28: Five suspected militants, who were trying to revive militancy in Punjab, were arrested here and a huge cache of arms and ammunition seized from them, a top police officer said today.
The militants, who belonged to the outlawed Babbar Khalsa outfit, were caught during raids on the outskirts of the city by the Special Operation Cell of the Punjab Police.
Two AK-47 rifles, five magazines, 420 live cartridges and other ammunition were seized from them, SP (SOC) Mandeep Singh told reporters here.
The five, booked under various sections of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, were trying to revive militancy in the state, he said.
They arrested militants were identified as Pal Singh, Kulwant Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Jagtar Singh and Darshan Singh Dhadi, the SP said.
Pal Singh is a French national who visited Pakistan in 1989, 1998 and 2002 where he met some terrorists, he said.
During his interrogation, Kulwant Singh confessed he along with Pal Singh went to Chittorgarh in Rajasthan in 2009 to recce the place from where explosives used in mining can be looted for carrying out subversive activities in Punjab, the SP said.
