Srinagar, July 28: At least five persons were wounded when police resorted to baton charge to disperse protesters near Sangrama in north Kashmir’s Varmul district on Wednesday. Police also arrested 39 persons.
Witnesses told Greater Kashmir that scores of youth raising pro-freedom slogans were intercepted by the police near Putkah Sangrama Wednesday evening. “Police used force to quell them. However, protesters offered stiff resistance and retaliated with stones triggering clashes in which at least five persons were wounded,” witnesses added.
They said later police arrested 39 persons.
The Superintendent of Police Sopur Altaf Ahmed Khan said, “We have arrested some miscreants who had come from other areas to create law and order problem.”
When contacted Block Medical Officer, Dr Khursheed said that five persons have been admitted in Sub District Hospital Kreeri.
