Cops thrashed me: MLA Langate
Srinagar, July 28: Member Assembly Langate Engineer Rashid on Wednesday said police thrashed him when he tried to lodge FIR against cops in police station Handwara.
Eyewitnesses told Greater Kashmir that Member assembly Langate went to lodge an FIR against cops for beating up a driver early in the day.
“The demand of MLA of registering FIR against cops irked them. The cops without listening dragged the MLA in police station. When his guards came to his rescue they were also abused by police,” they said, adding that hearing screams some nearby rushed to save him from clutches of police.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Rashid said that 20-30 cops pounced and thrashed him.
Hundreds of people took to streets in Handwara late night demanding action against cops for assaulting MLA.
When contacted a police official said that MLA Langate barged into police station and tore off the records. “We told him that we would look in the matter of driver, but he was adamant on registration of FIR ,” he added.
