Restrictions on Friday prayers undemocratic: Grand Mufti
Srinagar: Concerned over, what he said, the enforcement of curfew and shutdowns, the Grand Mufti of J&K, Moulana Mufti Muhammad Bashir-ud-Din said ‘restrictions’ on Friday prayers since June 11, was an undemocratic step.
“Friday prayer is obligatory for Muslims and it should be kept above party politics. The Muslims should be allowed to offer Friday prayer without any hindrance,” said the Grand Mufti.
In a letter addressed to the chief minister, he asked him to ensure that the Muslims offer Friday prayers without any difficulty. He has also suggested that all the detainees should be released to improve the situation in Valley.
