Train crushes 70-year-old man

Varmul, July 29: An aged man was killed after he was run over by a speeding train in this North Kashmir district here. The incident triggered protests in the area.
 Witnesses and officials said Ghulam Qadir Hajam, 70, son of late Ghulam Ahmad Hajam of Kralpora, Delina was crushed by a speeding train near Delina this morning.
 “His body was mutilated and he died instantly on the spot,” they said.
 The train, which runs on the Qazigund-Varmul route, was returning to Varmul from Hamray village of Pattan when a group of people blocked the railway track. The police used batons to disperse the protesters. However, the train service was suspended for the day in view of the tense situation, officials said.
