Valley gets dates from PaK
In the run up to Ramadhan
RABIA NOOR
Srinagar, July 29: With holy month of Ramadan approaching nearer, the demand for dates from PaK has begun to increase in the Valley. Consequently, 80 per cent of the consignments received this week from PaK via Salamabad-Chakoti route comprised of dates alone.
“The demand for PaK dates has increased considerably in the Valley in view of the forthcoming month of Ramadan. The import of dates is likely to increase further in the coming weeks,” said Muhammad Ashraf Wani, Trade Facilitation Officer Salamabad, Uri, and general manager District Industries Centre, Varmul.
He said 4000 quintals of goods were received from PaK this week, of which 80 per cent comprised of fresh and dry dates.
“The goods worth Rs 6.86 crore were imported in 58 trucks that were laden with some other dry fruits as well,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said, consignments worth Rs 3.98 crore were exported in 88 trucks to PaK. The consignments weighing 6700 quintals comprised mostly of coconuts and red chilies, he said.
Pertinently, the trans-LoC trade through Salamabad-Chakoti route was resumed after two weeks.
