GK NEWS NETWORK

Washington, July 29: The two-day 11th Peace Conference on the resolution of Kashmir problem started here last night with eminent diplomats and opinion-makers from India, Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir hoping for the resumption of Kashmir-specific dialogue between India and Pakistan involving people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Setting the tone for the conference at a get-together, the delegates said the conference was being held a time when Kashmir was calling for resolution louder than before.
Those who spoke at the get-together included Hussein Haqani, Ambassador of Pakistan in Washington; Kuldip Nayar, former Indian Ambassador to Britain; Justice Rajinder Sachar; Mushahid Hussein Syed; Rita Manchanda; Prof Angana Chaterjee; Ved Bhasin; Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi; Muhammad Afzal Sandhu; Dr Atiya Anaytullah; Ahmer Bilal Sufi; Dr Khalid Qazi; Dr MA Dar and Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai.
Every speaker called Kashmir situation as highly critical. A grave concern was shown towards the death of teenagers in Kashmir valley during the past few months. It was called upon that this genocide of the third generation Kashmiris should be stopped forthwith.
The speakers were also of the view that this festering wound can not be kept open for all times and there was a need for honest approach based on justice and fair play for the people of the state.
Most of the speakers said that the aspirations and political urges of Kashmiris were most important and there should be no compromise on that.
The event was conducted by columnist ZG Muhammad. Eight sessions of the conference will be commencing from Thursday morning in the Capitol.
